Puducherry Re-Allocates 51 Acres for ₹1,000-Crore JIPMER Expansion

In a major boost to regional healthcare infrastructure, the Puducherry government has re-allocated 51 acres of land in Sedarapet to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). The revived project, backed by a combined investment of approximately ₹1,000 crore, will feature two flagship facilities: a Centre for Organ Transplantation and a Centre for Trauma Care and Rehabilitation.

Spanning 25.4 acres, the ₹425-crore Trauma Centre will house 250 beds, advanced OTs, and a dedicated helipad for air ambulance operations to ensure rapid emergency transport. This multi-specialty hub will integrate trauma surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and critical care. Originally allotted in 2018 and paused in 2022 due to administrative revisions, the project is now officially back on track with strong support from the Puducherry leadership.
