Powering up 30 GW: NTPC’s Massive Nuclear Expansion Begins

NTPC Limited has initiated site selection studies across four states—Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh—for proposed nuclear power projects as part of its long-term plan to build 30 GW of nuclear capacity.

As outlined in its post-earnings presentation, the initiative is part of NTPC’s broader strategy to diversify its energy portfolio beyond thermal and renewable generation.

The company plans to develop nuclear projects across at least 14 states, with investments running into several lakh crore rupees. The expansion is aimed at supporting India’s national objective of reaching 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047.
