Pink City, Green Light: Jaipur’s ₹13,038 Crore Metro Leap

In a significant boost to Jaipur’s infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has approved the Phase 2 expansion of the Jaipur Metro, with a total investment of ₹13,038 crore.

Phase 2 will feature a 41-km North-South corridor connecting Prahladpura in the north to Todi Mod in the south, passing through key parts of the city to benefit thousands of daily commuters. The extension will include 36 stations—34 elevated and two underground—to navigate dense, high-traffic areas. The route will serve important locations such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA (Vaishali Nagar Industrial Area), Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, and Vidhyadhar Nagar.

A key feature of the project is its direct interchange with the existing Phase 1 metro at Khasa Kothi, enabling seamless connectivity between the two phases. Underground stations near Jaipur Airport will also improve accessibility to air travel via public transport.

Once operational, Phase 2 is expected to offer a faster and more efficient alternative to road transport, particularly during peak hours, saving commuters between Sitapura and Vidhyadhar Nagar up to 40–50 minutes per trip. The Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation will oversee the project.

Phase 1, covering the 11.64 km stretch from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, currently serves around 60,000 passengers daily. Phase 2 will significantly extend the metro’s reach, positioning Jaipur as a model for metro-based urban transport in India.
