Piling work has begun for the proposed 4.5-km connector of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project, which will link Mindspace in Malad to the Dindoshi Sessions Court.
Construction has started from the Dindoshi end, even as a decision is awaited on the potential demolition of the Veer Savarkar flyover—an obstacle along the planned alignment. At present, construction permissions extend only up to the Oberoi Mall junction.
The Savarkar flyover, completed in August 2018 at a cost of ₹27 crore, is located approximately 3 km beyond the current work site. Its removal may be necessary to accommodate the elevated connector. Authorities are evaluating the feasibility of replacing it with a two-deck structure, wherein the existing flyover would serve as the lower deck. If retained as-is, the narrowed slip road beneath may disrupt traffic flow.
This connector is part of the larger 22-km Versova–Dahisar Link Road (VDLR), which includes surface roads, elevated sections, stilted stretches, a cable-stayed bridge, and a cut-and-cover tunnel beneath a creek.
