PGCIL Acquires Tumkur II RE Transmission for ₹15.46 Crore

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) has acquired Tumkur II RE Transmission Ltd. (TRETL), marking a significant step toward strengthening renewable energy transmission infrastructure in Karnataka and supporting the integration of clean energy into the national grid.

PGCIL secured the project after emerging as the successful bidder in a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process conducted by PFC Consulting Ltd. The project, formally transferred on 29 May 2026, will be implemented under the build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) model.

The project is designed to enhance the transmission network at the Tumkur-II pooling station in Karnataka, facilitating the evacuation and integration of an additional 2.7 GW of renewable energy capacity. Key components include the construction of a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line, along with the augmentation of the Tumkur-II Pooling Station through the installation of interconnecting transformers and additional line bays.

As part of the transaction, PGCIL acquired 100 percent equity ownership of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for an initial consideration of approximately ₹15.46 crore, subject to final audited adjustments. Following the acquisition, the project company will seek the necessary regulatory approvals from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission before proceeding with implementation.
