The Odisha government is set to unveil Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, targeting at least 50% battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in all new vehicle registrations by 2036. This ambitious goal is a cornerstone of the broader Odisha Vision 2036, which also aims for 50% adoption of electric and alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) across the state.
On June 25, 2025, the Departments of Commerce, Transport, and Energy held a high-level brainstorming session to finalise the framework of the revised policy. The discussion focused on accelerating Odisha’s transition to electric mobility through stronger incentives for EV buyers and charge point operators (CPOs).
Key proposals under consideration include:
Incentives for CPOs, funded through the state budget on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Creation of a dedicated EV fund by redirecting revenues from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Expansion of public charging infrastructure across urban and rural areas.
Leveraging the PM e-DRIVE scheme to support widespread EV adoption.
The revised policy aims to foster green mobility, significantly cut carbon emissions, and position Odisha as a national leader in electric mobility.
