Odisha Goes Global: The ₹1,700 Cr Undersea Connection

Pune-based digital infrastructure company Shreetech Data has expressed interest in laying Odisha’s first undersea cable and setting up a carrier-neutral cable landing station (CLS) at Puri.

The company has proposed a partnership with Orange Business, a global leader in subsea cable systems, to implement the project. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Odisha’s digital infrastructure and position the state as a key data gateway on India’s eastern coast.

The proposed CLS is aimed at improving digital connectivity, reducing latency, and enhancing access to international bandwidth, thereby attracting telecom operators, cloud service providers, and IT/ITES firms to the state. Shreetech plans to invest around Rs 1,700 crore in the project under a revenue-sharing arrangement with Orange Business.

According to sources, the proposal has been submitted through the state’s single-window GO-SWIFT portal and is slated for review by the high-level clearance authority. The development is expected to support Odisha’s emergence as a hub for global capability centres.
