NHAI to Take Over 7 Crucial Highway Stretches in West Bengal

The Government of West Bengal has granted in-principle approval for the transfer of seven key national highway stretches to Central agencies, resolving a long-pending administrative issue that had delayed several strategic infrastructure projects in the state.

One of the major corridors included in the transfer is the 329.6-km NH-312 route connecting Jangipur, Omarpur, Krishnagar, Bongaon, Basirhat, and Ghojadanga near the India-Bangladesh border. The move will allow the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to proceed with expansion, upgrading, and modernisation work on these strategically important highway corridors.

The Centre had been seeking formal transfer approval for these road stretches to facilitate construction activities and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving regional trade, tourism, and border connectivity.

The decision is expected to accelerate highway infrastructure development and strengthen transport connectivity across West Bengal.
