The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the near-completion of the INR 1,130-crore four-laning initiative for the Melur-Karaikudi corridor on National Highway 338. Spanning 45 kilometers and built under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) framework, the infrastructure upgrade bridges Madurai and Sivaganga districts.
Designed to replace congested two-lane segments, the expanded highway seamlessly integrates with key arteries such as NH-210, NH-226, and State Highway 35. Beyond enhancing regional commerce, healthcare access, and educational mobility, the project significantly improves pilgrim access to the renowned Pillayarpatti temple. With main road construction finalized, teams are currently executing finishing works on service roads, junction enhancements, and pedestrian infrastructure ahead of full operational launch.
