Naidu’s ₹2,000Cr Irrigation Push for North Andhra

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on February 26, 2026, outlined an action plan to expedite completion of key irrigation projects across the State.

The Chief Minister announced that ₹2,000 crore would be allocated in phases to complete all pending irrigation works in North Andhra. He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to accelerating the long-delayed Polavaram Project, stating that it would be completed and dedicated to the nation before the next Godavari Pushkaram. In addition, he said the Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Scheme would soon be finished to provide water to Eluru and Krishna districts.

Highlighting the State’s water resources, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh’s irrigation projects have a total storage capacity of 1,312 TMC, with current reservoir levels at 793 TMC. Efforts are being made to ensure adequate water supply for nurseries by mid-May, he added.

Emphasising Andhra Pradesh’s leading position in micro-irrigation coverage, the Chief Minister noted that improved groundwater levels have reduced reliance on electric pumps, resulting in lower power consumption and costs. He also reiterated that the proposed Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar link project would benefit both Telugu states by diverting surplus floodwaters for productive use.
