The National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) has announced that nearly 75% of the excavation work for the underground station at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) — the only subterranean stop on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route — has been completed.
According to NHSRCL officials, more than 14 lakh cubic meters of soil have already been excavated from the total requirement of 18.72 lakh cubic meters. Once complete, the BKC station will reach a depth of 32 meters, roughly equivalent to a 10-story building.
The station will be spread across three underground levels: the bullet train platform at approximately 24 meters below ground, a concourse level, and a service floor. It will feature six platforms, each 415 meters long, designed to accommodate 16-coach bullet trains.
To enhance commuter convenience, the station will include two entry/exit points — one connecting directly to the metro line 2B station for smooth interchanges, and the other positioned near the MTNL building.
This major advancement in excavation marks a key milestone in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, moving high-speed rail travel in the region one step closer to reality.
