The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has commenced final inspections of the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 2B, covering a 5.39 km stretch from Mandale to Diamond Garden.
According to MMRDA officials, this marks the final step before the corridor can be certified safe for passenger operations. Pending approval, the section is expected to open by the end of September. The CMRS, a statutory authority under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is responsible for ensuring metro systems meet national safety standards.
The first phase includes five stations — Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden — where trial runs have already been completed. The Yellow Line 2B spans 23.6 km with 20 stations, and forms a key part of Mumbai’s metro expansion strategy, aimed at reducing road congestion and serving over 1 million commuters daily.
Work on Phase 2 (Diamond Garden to D N Nagar) is 88% complete, with full operational launch targeted by early 2026. The supporting metro depot is already ready. The CMRS inspection report will outline any remaining compliance requirements, which must be addressed before the line opens to the public.
