Mega-Upgrade: Anakapalli–Diwan Cheruvu Goes Six-Lane.

The Anakapalli–Diwan Cheruvu section of the national highway will be expanded to six lanes over a 160.25 km stretch in preparation for the Godavari Pushkaralu 2027.

Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari emphasized the project’s potential to drive economic growth across the East Godavari, Kakinada, and Anakapalli districts, noting that the expansion will significantly reduce travel time and enhance regional connectivity and financial returns.

During a review meeting on the proposed NH-16 widening project, she underscored the need for effective coordination among government departments to ensure smooth land acquisition and timely approvals. The upgraded section will traverse key areas including East Gonagudem and Velugubanda, with measures planned to minimize disruption to local residents.

In addition to lane expansion, officials are prioritizing infrastructure enhancements such as light vehicle underpasses and protective crossings at major junctions. The project aims to strengthen the region’s transportation network, support local development, and improve the overall quality of life for surrounding communities.
