Mann's Megaproject: ₹16,209 CR for 44,920 km of New Roads

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on 30 November 2025 announced a major road construction initiative worth ₹16,209 crore, aimed at developing 44,920 km of roads across the state within the next year.

The project is based on an extensive survey of existing road conditions to prioritise repairs, widening, and upgrades. Under the plan, all roads—spanning villages, towns, and cities—will be constructed with a five-year maintenance clause to ensure long-term quality and durability. Calling it the largest road construction effort in Punjab’s history, CM Mann said, “This will significantly improve mobility and strengthen rural infrastructure,” highlighting the focus on safe and high-quality road networks.

A key feature of the initiative is its community-led accountability mechanism, under which contractors will receive payments only after local residents approve the completed work. This project builds on the ongoing development of 19,373 km of rural link roads worth ₹4,092 crore.
