MahaRail Greenlights 13 New Infrastructure Projects for Nagpur

Nagpur is set to benefit from 13 new rail infrastructure projects under a broader initiative by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) aimed at eliminating railway level crossings, improving road safety, and enhancing urban mobility across the state.

The projects form part of a larger programme comprising 80 rail-related infrastructure works proposed across several major cities in Maharashtra. The initiative was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where officials discussed strategies to accelerate implementation and improve transportation connectivity.

While the specific project locations and designs are yet to be finalised, the planned developments are expected to include railway overbridges, underpasses, and pedestrian infrastructure aimed at reducing traffic congestion and ensuring safer movement for commuters, motorists, and pedestrians. The projects will be executed by MahaRail under the leadership of Managing Director Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal.

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s vision of creating a “railway crossing-free Maharashtra” by prioritising projects that improve traffic flow while minimising land acquisition requirements. He also directed officials to explore cost-effective financing options through institutions such as HUDCO and expedite necessary approvals to ensure timely project execution.

Authorities have further been instructed to design infrastructure with future urban growth in mind, ensuring that capacity creation aligns with long-term development plans rather than current demand levels. The proposed projects are expected to support Nagpur’s expanding urban landscape by providing sustainable mobility solutions and strengthening the city’s transportation network for years to come.
