Japanese electronics major Murata, a key supplier to Apple, has started packaging and shipping multilayer ceramic capacitors from its new facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu—its first manufacturing venture in India.
Located within the OneHub Chennai Industrial Park, the 3,500 sq. m facility will cater to manufacturers in the smartphone, electric vehicle (EV), and industrial machinery sectors. Murata commands a 40% share of the global market for multilayer ceramic capacitors, critical components used in everything from smartphones to NASA’s Mars helicopter.
Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, TRB Rajaa, welcomed the launch as a milestone for the state's growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The new facility is expected to enhance Murata’s global supply chain resilience while aligning with India’s efforts to position itself as a hub for advanced electronic component manufacturing. While Murata supplies major global brands including Apple and Samsung, it remains unconfirmed whether the Chennai plant will directly support Apple’s Indian manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Tata Electronics.
