KLA’s $400 Million Bet: A New Era for Chennai’s Tech Corridor

KLA Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish a new research and development (R&D) and innovation campus in Chennai.

As part of the agreement, KLA plans to invest up to $400 million (around ₹3,600 crore) over the next 10 years to develop the facility, which will focus on advanced research and engineering capabilities. The project is expected to generate up to 4,000 jobs during the decade, providing a significant boost to the region’s semiconductor and technology ecosystem.

Earlier this year, the company inaugurated a ₹300 crore R&D centre in Chennai. The proposed campus will further expand KLA’s footprint in the city. Planned across a 12-acre site, the campus is envisioned to eventually house up to 1.5 million square feet of built-up space, the company said.
