US-based semiconductor equipment manufacturer KLA Corp has inaugurated a new research and innovation hub in Chennai with an investment of Rs 300 crore.
The 311,000-sq ft facility is designed to accommodate up to 1,300 employees and will focus on strengthening the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) and software development capabilities, while also supporting research, engineering, and product support functions. The inauguration was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Tamil Nadu government, underscoring growing industry–government collaboration as India works to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
The Chennai centre complies with LEED and WELL standards, emphasising energy efficiency and employee well-being. KLA has operated in India since 2004 and has established an AI and engineering centre of excellence. Amitesh Kumar Sinha from MeitY noted that such investments are vital to India’s goal of becoming a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
