Northern Railway’s Ambala division has greenlit major safety upgrades for Kharar railway station in Punjab. The development includes awarding the tender for a new foot overbridge (FOB) and sanctioning the elevation of platform No. 2. These actions follow a grievance filed with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on August 10, 2026, by local activist Arun Kumar, who drew attention to severe commuter risks. Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) D.S. Meena confirmed that structural designs for the FOB are underway, while cost estimates for elevating the platform are pending final clearance before moving to tendering. Both high-priority projects aim to eliminate track-crossing hazards for elderly passengers, women, children, and individuals with disabilities.
