Kerala Rides the Wave: ₹169 Crore Boost for Water Tourism

In a significant boost to Kerala's tourism, the Union government has approved a funding of Rs 169.05 crore for two key projects focused on enhancing water tourism in Alappuzha and Malampuzha Gardens. These initiatives, slated for completion by March 31, 2026, will be developed under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

The ‘Alappuzha – A Global Water Wonderland’ project has been allocated Rs 93.17 crore, aiming to position Alappuzha as a leading water tourism destination. This project includes the development of beach areas, transformation of canals, construction of an international cruise terminal, upgraded waste management systems, and facilities for cultural and community engagement.

The ‘Enhancement of Tourist Experience at Malampuzha Garden and Leisure Park’ project will receive Rs 75.87 crore, with plans to elevate Malampuzha as a premier tourism hub in North Kerala. The project includes the creation of theme parks, water fountains, recreational zones, walking paths, cultural attractions, hospitality areas, landscaping, and sustainable waste management systems.
