The Karnataka government plans to set up 6,500 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) and 5,000 nursery schools across the state, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced during the inauguration of a new school building in Chabbi village, Dharwad district.
Each KPS will offer education from Classes 1 to 12 in both Kannada and English mediums, with one school planned for every gram panchayat. The new nursery schools will provide foundational education to children in rural areas, helping bridge early learning gaps.
District In-charge Minister Santosh S. Lad highlighted India’s progress in literacy—from 20–25% at independence to around 75% today—while also raising concerns over unemployment and school closures.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced a Rs 60 crore initiative to repaint 1,100 schools in Dharwad and outlined CSR contributions, including support for 400 schools, 31,600 desks, and 200 smart classrooms.
Other leaders, including former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and MLA R. Ashok, emphasized the need for immediate teacher recruitment and further infrastructure expansion to meet the growing educational demand.
