ITPL Builds Better Roads: New Chennai Bitumen Plant Opens

IndianOil Total (ITPL) has inaugurated a greenfield bitumen derivatives plant in Gummidipoondi, near Chennai, to address the rising demand for high-performance materials used in road construction.

The new facility will manufacture a range of specialised bitumen products, including polymer modified bitumen (PMB), crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB), and natural rubber modified bitumen (NRMB). These products will support national highways, state road networks, industrial corridors, and urban infrastructure projects across Southern India. The plant features advanced automation systems and complies with global safety standards.

“The facility will play a vital role in supplying materials for NHAI national highway projects, state highway initiatives, major city infrastructure works, industrial corridors, and other key development activities in the region,” said ITPL Chairman Anuj Jain. The project also reflects TotalEnergies’ long-term commitment to India, strengthening its local R&D capabilities and technological expertise.
