ITOCHU Secures Stake in India’s First Independent Ammonia Terminal

ITOCHU Corporation has expanded its footprint in the clean energy and industrial infrastructure sectors by acquiring an equity stake in Aegis Terminal (Pipavav) (ATPL) from Aegis Vopak Terminals. This strategic move marks ITOCHU's inaugural entry into the Indian ammonia storage terminal market.

At the core of the investment is ATPL’s state-of-the-art facility at Port Pipavav, Gujarat, which stands as India’s first independent ammonia storage terminal, achieving operational readiness on August 10, 2026. Designed to support both traditional markets—such as fertilizers and industrial applications—and emerging sectors like clean energy, marine fuel, and hydrogen transportation, the facility features a newly built 36,000-tonne capacity ammonia storage tank. This is complemented by robust, integrated logistics infrastructure, including dedicated cargo-handling systems, pipelines, and automated truck loading and unloading bays.

Deepening an already established partnership with the Aegis Group across LPG and other terminal operations, ITOCHU aims to leverage this collaboration to build a resilient, high-capacity ammonia supply chain and enhance its regional logistics capabilities.
