Innovation Hub: India's Largest AI City Launched in Bengaluru

On 4th September 2025, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the launch of the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) at Bidadi, which will be developed as India’s first and largest Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered city.

Spread across 9,000 acres covering nine villages, the township will follow a "work-live-play" model and is envisioned as Karnataka’s second central business district. Of the total area, over 2,000 acres will be dedicated to AI-focused industries, positioning the state as a frontrunner in AI-driven urban development.

The project has an estimated investment of over ₹20,000 crore, comprising:

₹2,950 crore from the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA)

₹17,500 crore from financial institutions

A model rehabilitation policy—aligned with the 2013 Land Acquisition Act—will be implemented to provide annuities, housing, and skilling support for displaced or affected families.

Originally proposed in 2006, the project regained traction in 2023 and is now moving forward as a flagship initiative. A dedicated 300-metre-wide business corridor will be developed to enhance connectivity with major highways and facilitate seamless access.

Speaking on the project's impact, Deputy CM Shivakumar stated: “Lakhs of young people will benefit from new jobs and skilling centres,” highlighting the township's potential to drive employment, innovation, and economic growth.
