GHCL, India’s second-largest producer of soda ash, plans to nearly double its production capacity from 1.2 million tonnes to 2.3 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
This expansion will be driven by a ₹6,500-crore greenfield project in the Kutch district of Gujarat, with construction expected to begin within six to seven months, pending land acquisition and environmental approvals. The project, to be implemented in two phases, will add 1.1 million tonnes of capacity and is strategically aimed at supporting the growing solar glass industry, in line with India’s 300 GW solar power target.
The new facility will incorporate advanced, energy-efficient technologies to reinforce environmental sustainability. GHCL plans to fund the project through a balanced mix of debt and equity, supported by its robust financial position. The company remains optimistic about meeting rising domestic demand, despite challenges from imports.
