India’s EV Charging Boom: Power Consumption More Than Triples

India’s public EV charging infrastructure is booming, with national power consumption surging past 1,558.69 million units (MU) in FY26—more than triple the 465.85 MU recorded in FY24, according to Central Electricity Authority (CEA) data. While traditional hubs like Delhi and Maharashtra lead consumption, adoption is rapidly decentralizing. States like Uttar Pradesh (which saw its share jump from under 1% to 5.12%), Karnataka, and Telangana are driving a broader geographic expansion to support surging demand across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial fleets.
