The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), the hospitality arm of the Tata Group, is ramping up its presence in North East India, in line with the national push for regional development.
Managing Director & CEO Puneet Chhatwal announced several key initiatives, including:
A new hotel in Jagiroad, Assam, near the upcoming Tata Electronics plant
A new property in Kaziranga
An upgrade of the existing Vivanta in Guwahati to a Taj-branded hotel, with additional rooms and banquet facilities
IHCL also signed its first ‘Taj Palace’ property in the North East—the Taj Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala, Tripura. In partnership with the Tripura government, the 1917 heritage palace will be restored and expanded into a 100-room luxury hotel over the next three years.
Currently, IHCL operates 15 hotels with 1,348 rooms across the region and has six more properties (634 rooms) in the pipeline.
Additionally, the company has partnered with the Ambuja Neotia Group to develop 15 new hotels, primarily focused on East and North East India, reinforcing its commitment to emerging markets and regional tourism growth.
