Hyundai Motor Co has unveiled a bold new strategy for India, announcing plans to launch the country’s first locally designed electric vehicle (EV) and expand production capacity at its Pune plant by 2.5 lakh units by 2030.
Reinforcing its long-term commitment to India—the world’s third-largest automotive market—Hyundai aims to launch six EVs by 2030, led by the sub-compact SUV HE1i. The company is also localising battery pack production through partnerships with Exide Industries and Amara Raja, and plans to introduce hybrid models to strengthen its future-ready portfolio.
The automaker is targeting a higher EV share than its internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup, where it currently ranks second in India’s passenger vehicle segment.
On the global front, Hyundai is also pushing boundaries with extended-range EVs (up to 600 miles/960 km) and next-generation software-defined vehicles, slated for rollout by 2027.
