Hindalco x Odisha: A ₹21,000-Crore Growth Story

Hindalco Industries has announced a ₹21,000-crore expansion of its Aditya Aluminium complex in Sambalpur, Odisha, along with the commissioning of a ₹4,500-crore flat-rolled products (FRP) and battery foil manufacturing facility, reinforcing the company’s expansion strategy in the State.

The projects were inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The aluminium smelter expansion will add 3.6 lakh tonnes per annum of capacity, while the newly commissioned FRP facility will have an annual capacity of 1.7 lakh tonnes.

A key highlight of the development is the commissioning of India’s first battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing plant, capable of supporting up to 100 GWh of lithium-ion cell manufacturing capacity. The battery foil unit will source material directly from the FRP complex, creating an integrated value chain to support electric vehicle and energy storage applications.

These initiatives form a significant part of Hindalco’s ₹37,000-crore investment plan for Odisha and contribute to the company’s broader ₹55,000-crore growth capital expenditure programme across India. The projects are expected to generate over 15,000 jobs, providing a major boost to industrial activity and employment in the region.
