The Gujarat Cabinet has approved a proposal to widen the Ahmedabad–Mehsana highway from four lanes to an eight-lane corridor.
The 51-km project, estimated to cost Rs 2,630 crore, is aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow along the busy stretch. Currently handling more than 100,000 vehicles ежедневно, the expansion is expected to reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Mehsana from around 60 minutes to approximately 45–50 minutes.
A key component of the project is a 6.1-km elevated corridor through Kalol city, designed to decongest urban traffic and improve connectivity by linking major flyovers and overbridges. The upgraded highway will also include eight flyovers, eight underpasses, and the widening of existing structures.
State government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani said that the project will significantly benefit residents of Mehsana, Patan, and Banaskantha districts in North Gujarat. The project is expected to be completed within two years following the completion of the tendering process.
