Power distribution networks in rural southern Andhra Pradesh are being upgraded, with the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) undertaking the separation of 3,015 11 kV feeders to improve supply stability, particularly for agricultural consumers.
APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director L. Shivashankar highlighted the initiative during his Republic Day address, stating, “We are committed to ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply to rural areas.” Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), 74 overloaded 33 kV feeders have already been separated to enhance network stability.
The programme also includes feeder-level solarisation, targeting 610 MW of renewable capacity. In the Kuppam area, solar installations have already generated 141 MW. Additionally, rooftop solar systems are being installed for 7,438 SC and ST consumers, and APSPDCL is rolling out smart meters, with 6.14 lakh connections already covered.
This integrated effort aims to strengthen rural electrification, promote clean energy, and ensure a reliable, modernised power supply for households and agriculture across southern Andhra Pradesh.
