Green Giants: Uniper and AM Green Ink Landmark Ammonia Deal

Germany-based energy company Uniper has signed a long-term agreement with India’s AM Green to purchase up to 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, with the first deliveries expected to begin in 2028.

The strategic partnership supports Uniper’s objective of supplying sustainable, low-carbon molecules at scale to its customers as part of its energy transition strategy. The agreement was finalised during the visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to India, underscoring the strengthening economic and energy cooperation between the two countries amid evolving global geopolitical dynamics.

Uniper CEO Michael Lewis said the agreement aligns with the company’s commitment to delivering renewable and low-carbon energy solutions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed the partnership, highlighting its importance in advancing India’s ambition to become a global hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia exports.
