Goodbye Traffic: The 5-Hour Hyd-Blr Dream is Coming True.

Travel between Hyderabad and Bengaluru is set to become significantly faster, with road journey time expected to reduce to around five hours following the Centre’s approval to upgrade National Highway 44 (NH-44), which connects the two cities.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the modernisation of NH-44, which passes through Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. The highway will be expanded into a six-lane, access-controlled expressway to improve traffic flow and minimise stoppages. While a new greenfield high-speed corridor was initially proposed, the plan was dropped due to higher costs and land acquisition challenges, making the widening of the existing route a more practical option.

The upgraded 576-km stretch across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka will include service roads for local traffic, limited access points, and clear separation between local and long-distance vehicles. In parallel, the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway is nearing completion. Once operational, parts of Chittoor district will be about 90 minutes from both cities, with some sections allowing travel to Bengaluru in under an hour.

Designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph, the expressway projects are expected to enhance trade, tourism, and regional connectivity across South India.
