The long-standing aspiration of Rajamahendravaram residents to see a clean and pollution-free Godavari River is steadily taking shape, thanks to rapid progress on the new sewage treatment plant (STP).
The STP, located in the Aava area, is slated for completion by March 2026 and has already reached an advanced construction stage, with most concrete work completed. Four additional sump structures have also been built as part of the broader Godavari purification initiative. The next phase—installation of key machinery—is set to begin soon.
Designed to treat 50 million litres of sewage per day (MLD) before discharge into the river, the plant will incorporate multi-stage filtration and chemical treatment systems to ensure high-quality effluent. Municipal engineers highlight that once operational next year, the project will significantly improve the river’s ecological health and enhance the quality of life for Rajamahendravaram residents.
