Go It Alone: Telangana to Fully Fund Hyderabad Metro Phase 2

The Telangana government is prepared to move ahead with the Phase 2 expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project without seeking financial support from the Centre, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said on Monday.

Addressing a press conference, Reddy stated that the state is willing to fully fund the metro expansion to ensure the project progresses without further delays. He urged the Union government to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the earliest, which would facilitate the commencement of the next phase of development.

The Chief Minister said he has held several discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking approval for the long-pending metro expansion proposal. According to him, the state government has consistently highlighted the importance of the project in meeting Hyderabad’s growing urban mobility requirements.

Reddy emphasized that the expansion has already faced significant delays over the years and stressed the need for timely clearances to accelerate implementation. He noted that Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro is critical for improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and supporting the city's rapid urban growth.

The state government’s willingness to independently undertake the project reflects its commitment to strengthening public transport infrastructure and enhancing commuter convenience across the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
