GMR Puts ₹800 Crore Bet on Bhogapuram’s Accelerated Launch

GMR Airports is targeting the operationalisation of Bhogapuram International Airport during the second quarter of the current fiscal year, advancing the project timeline significantly from its earlier target of December 2026. The accelerated schedule reflects the rapid progress achieved in construction and commissioning activities as the company moves toward the airport’s commercial launch.

The Bhogapuram project remains GMR Airports’ most significant growth investment and is expected to account for the majority of the company’s capital expenditure during FY2026–27. In contrast, the company’s existing airport portfolio is anticipated to require only routine operational capital expenditure during the period. To complete the remaining works and support final commissioning activities, GMR Airports plans to invest approximately ₹700–800 crore in the project during FY2026–27.

As of March 2026, the airport had achieved 98.7 percent physical completion, highlighting the advanced stage of development. With key infrastructure works largely completed, the focus has shifted to systems integration, testing, regulatory approvals, and operational readiness. Once commissioned, Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to strengthen regional air connectivity, support economic development in Andhra Pradesh, and enhance the aviation infrastructure capacity of India’s eastern coast.
