Global Ambition: Maharashtra's $1B GCC Leap

The Maharashtra government, in collaboration with Brookfield Corporation, is set to develop Asia’s largest Global Capability Centre (GCC) with an investment exceeding USD 1 billion.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the project at the Jio World Centre, stating that the two million square foot facility is expected to generate 15,000 direct and 30,000 indirect employment opportunities. Emphasising the state’s long-term vision, CM Fadnavis said Maharashtra aims to position itself as the “GCC capital” of the world. He noted that the proposed facility could be the largest GCC not only in Asia but globally.

In addition to the Brookfield partnership, the state government is in discussions with global logistics major FedEx to establish additional GCCs in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Maharashtra plans to set up nearly 400 GCCs across the state over the next five years, with Pune identified as a major growth hub.

The government’s strategy will initially focus on tier-1 cities such as Mumbai and Pune, followed by a phased expansion into tier-2 cities to drive balanced regional development.
