Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha that the Centre has approved the development of 501 wayside amenities (WSAs) along national highways and expressways, including 56 in Gujarat. Currently, 94 WSAs are operational across the country, with nine already functional in Gujarat.
The government aims to expand the network to over 700 WSAs by 2028–29, enhancing road infrastructure and traveller convenience. WSAs will be strategically located every 40–60 km, offering essential services such as clean restrooms, safe parking, EV charging stations, hygienic food courts, and basic medical care—key to ensuring safer, more comfortable long-distance travel.
In Gujarat, the planned WSAs represent a significant boost to the state’s highway infrastructure. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state has made rapid progress in road connectivity, which will be further strengthened through the rollout of these modern roadside facilities.
