Fueling the Future: India-Sri Lanka Oil Pipeline Link

C. P. Radhakrishnan and Anura Kumara Dissanayake held discussions to advance a proposal for a cross-border multi-product oil pipeline, signalling deeper energy cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

The proposed pipeline is expected to connect Nagapattinam with the strategic Trincomalee Tank Farm and Colombo, forming a key element of regional energy integration. The initiative aims to enhance energy security, stabilise fuel supplies, and reduce costs for both countries amid global market uncertainties.

Vikram Misri confirmed that the pipeline project is central to plans to develop Trincomalee as a major energy hub. The proposal builds on earlier discussions involving Indian Oil Corporation and Sri Lankan energy authorities, and complements existing collaborations with Lanka IOC and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal.

Officials noted that detailed feasibility studies—including technical and financial assessments—will be required before the project can move forward.

The meeting also reinforced India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and is expected to pave the way for broader cooperation, including potential integration of power grids and digital infrastructure, further strengthening economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
