The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) has granted stage-I in-principle approval to divert nearly 1,000 hectares of forest land in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district for two coal mining projects linked to Adani Group subsidiaries. The approvals cover the Pelma open-cast mine (Pelma Collieries/SECL) requiring over 360 hectares and the Purunga underground block (Ambuja Cements) involving over 620 hectares. Both clearances remain conditional upon strict environmental safeguards and compensatory afforestation before final stage-II approval.
