ENGIE has secured 280 MW/560 MWh of battery storage capacity in a recent Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) auction, part of India’s 2 GW/4 GWh national energy storage tender.
This award marks ENGIE’s formal entry into utility-scale battery storage in India and represents one of the largest BESS allocations in the country to date. With this contract, ENGIE’s India portfolio now stands at approximately 2.75 GW, further strengthening its contribution to India's clean energy transition. The new BESS project will help manage peak demand, enable smoother renewable energy integration, and support ongoing grid modernisation efforts.
“This marks a significant step in our commitment to accelerating the shift towards a future-ready renewable power system in India,” the company said in its statement. Globally, ENGIE aims to deploy 95 GW of renewable and storage capacity by 2030.
