In a major move towards planned urban development, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is set to acquire 713.375 acres across several villages—Rasulpur, Salamatpur, Dhodemajra, Takkipur, Rajgarh, Majra, Kartarpur, Kansala, and Hoshiarpur—for the development of Eco City 3 in New Chandigarh.
The acquisition, to be carried out under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, will transform the area into an officially designated Resettlement Zone. The Eco City 3 project aims to position New Chandigarh as a modern urban hub, providing advanced infrastructure and driving regional economic growth.
In parallel, the Punjab government is acquiring 309 acres in Mullanpur Garibdass village to support low- and high-density residential development as per the New Chandigarh Master Plan.
Initiated by a Section 4 Notification in November 2022, the project is backed by a Social Impact Assessment from Punjab Agricultural University, highlighting its potential for significant socio-economic benefits. Affected families will receive an annuity of ₹5 lakh, a resettlement allowance of ₹50,000, and exemptions on stamp duty and registration fees.
