Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has inaugurated the ₹110 crore Dalmia Railway Siding in Salanpur, West Bengal, aimed at strengthening coal evacuation and logistics efficiency in the region.
The new facility is expected to significantly enhance coal dispatch capacity while addressing existing logistical bottlenecks. ECL officials noted that the project will enable faster and more efficient movement of coal. Spread across 70.21 acres, the siding is equipped with two 650-metre coal-loading platforms, a dedicated weighbridge, and a total track length of 4.65 km. Designed to handle up to six million tonnes of coal annually, the facility will primarily rely on pay loaders for coal loading, providing greater operational flexibility.
Executed by RITES, the project is connected to the Eastern Railway network under the Asansol Division. By reducing dependence on road transportation, the siding is expected to lower logistics costs and support environmentally sustainable coal movement. The development represents a key step toward enhancing rail infrastructure and logistics capabilities in West Bengal’s coal-bearing regions.
