DRDO & SECI Power Up India's Defence with 300 MW Solar Push

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14 October 2025 to jointly develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO establishments nationwide.

The agreement, signed at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi, was witnessed by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, and Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

This strategic collaboration supports India’s national renewable energy targets and DRDO’s vision of achieving Net-Zero energy campuses at key defence locations by 2027.

The initiative represents a major step toward integrating sustainability into the defence sector—enhancing energy security, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources, and promoting environmental responsibility. It also highlights strong inter-ministerial cooperation between the defence and renewable energy sectors, aimed at driving both technological progress and climate action.
