Dholera's Industrial Boom: Tata Leads with Semiconductor Fab

The Tata Group’s semiconductor fabrication facility at Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat is set for completion by the second quarter of the 2027-28 financial year, according to a statement from the Gujarat government in the state legislature.

During the Question Hour, the government confirmed that construction of Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt Ltd’s unit is in progress and is expected to be completed within the specified timeline.

Announced by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2024, the project marks India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication unit. It is being developed by Tata Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), with a total investment of ₹91,000 crore.

At the groundbreaking ceremony in March 2024, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw projected that the first chip from the Dholera facility would be ready by December 2026.

Additionally, the Gujarat government disclosed that 21 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed for industrial development in Dholera SIR. These agreements involve key entities such as Dholera Industrial City Development Ltd, Dholera International Airport Company Ltd, the National Highways Authority of India, and Torrent Power Ltd.
