Delhi’s Mega Water Mission: 50+ STPs Getting Upgraded

In a major boost to the capital's environmental infrastructure, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is set to expand and upgrade more than 50 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) by January 2028. The initiative will scale Delhi’s wastewater treatment capability from 814 MGD to a massive 1,506 MGD.

The project targets key pressure points across the city through a three-pronged strategy: constructing 29 decentralized STPs (170 MGD capacity) in outer areas, establishing 13 large-scale STPs (331.5 MGD capacity) under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) at major drain outfalls, and modernizing nine existing units. Combined with the 28 facilities already upgraded, this plan marks a crucial milestone toward sustainable water resource management for the National Capital.
