Delhi’s Green Turn: New Ghazipur Plant & MPD-2047 Approved

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved a land-use change for a 10-acre plot in Ghazipur to establish a fresh-waste processing facility and biogas plant, targeting a capacity of at least 800 tonnes per day. Chaired by Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the meeting also greenlit the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 (MPD-2047) for central clearance.

Project Breakdown: 5 acres will house the fresh-waste unit, while the remaining 5 acres will accommodate the biogas plant.

Broader Initiative: Part of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) wider plan to deploy five fresh-waste facilities (total capacity up to 5,900 tonnes/day) by October-end to curb wet-waste accumulation and accelerate legacy landfill clearance.

Compensatory Greens: The DDA also re-designated 752.51 square metres in Pocket-B, IFC Ghazipur, from public use to recreational to maintain ecological balance.
