Chhattisgarh's 1,800 MW Power Surge: New Era of Clean Energy

The Chhattisgarh government has signed an agreement with NHPC and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company (CSPGCL) to develop two pumped storage projects (PSPs) with a combined capacity of 1,800 MW.

Signed on August 8, the agreement covers the 800 MW Hasdeo Bango PSP in Korba district, with an investment of approximately Rs 3,417 crore, and the 1,000 MW Kurund PSP, estimated at Rs 6,000 crore. These projects are expected to enhance renewable energy storage, improve grid stability, and meet peak power demand.

Pumped storage systems store energy by pumping water to an upper reservoir during off-peak hours and releasing it to generate electricity during peak demand. This initiative represents a major step in Chhattisgarh’s clean energy transition and underscores the state’s commitment to expanding hydropower infrastructure.
