Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta, has announced the discovery of new natural gas reserves beneath the Ambe gas field in India’s western offshore region.
The discovery was made at the Ambe-2A appraisal well in the CB/OSDSF/AMBE/2021 block. The newly identified reserves are located in deeper reservoirs below the main gas field, within the Miocene-Tarkeshwar formation. Cairn is currently assessing the development potential of the discovery and plans to drill two additional wells as part of its ongoing drilling campaign.
Cairn holds a 100 percent participating interest in the Ambe block, which was awarded to the company under the third round of the Discovered Small Field (DSF) bidding process in September 2022.
The discovery is considered a significant step toward boosting domestic natural gas production and strengthening India’s energy security. Cairn has highlighted that the find aligns with its commitment to supporting India’s energy self-reliance, or Atmanirbharta.
