Bihar's Tourism Boom: Five-Star Hotels to Elevate Rajgir and Vaishali

On 19 August 2025, the Bihar Cabinet approved the development of two five-star hotels in Rajgir (Nalanda district) and a five-star resort in Vaishali district, under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure and attract high-value visitors.

According to the proposal from the Department of Tourism, the hotels in Rajgir will be developed on a 10-acre site near Mela Maidan, while the Vaishali resort will be constructed on 10 acres near the newly inaugurated Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa. Both sites will be leased to private developers for construction and operation, in accordance with the Infrastructure Development Enabling (Amendment) Act, 2023.

S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, stated, “A large number of tourists visit Rajgir and Vaishali. These projects will ensure better amenities and high-quality accommodation for visitors.”

The Cabinet’s press note highlighted that the projects are expected to stimulate local economies, generate employment, and enhance trade and tourism-related activities beyond the state capital, contributing to balanced regional development.
